If the 1939 is the right Ethel Vivien Hill (Houghton) which I think is probable where is Herbert, was he in the military? There are 5 births for Hill with mmn Houghton in Lancashire between 1937 and 1945. all of which could still be living.

Ethel Vivien Houghton was the daughter of Walter Houghton,1974 and Mary Ann Houghton,1875.
Walter Houghton died in 1919, Prescot, Lancashire. Could Mary Ann have then re-married to Joseph Aitken in 1921. This would make Mary Ann, Ethel Vivien's mother in the 1939. :-\

Thank you for all the information.
Regarding Herbert being in the military - I had heard at some point he was in the Navy. It is odd that I can't find anything on him. They lived at Thorpe on the Hill in Lincoln when Herbert died.
Thanks again.

Yes they both died in Lincolnshire that's why I think Ethel was just visiting her mother in 1939. Can't find a marriage for them though.

Herbert is in Lincoln in 1939 with his birth given incorrectly as 7th June 1907, mainly because of an mark which makes the 1 look like a 7 but the 2 is quite clear.

His widowed mother married Herbert Bellamy in Oct-Dec 1941 North Kesteven. She died Jan-Mar 1971 North Kesteven.

Sister, Vera Hill, died Jan-Mar 1946 North Kesteven.

I can't see a death for his father in Lincolnshire.

Walter Hill
Baptism: 5 Jan 1885 in Linton, Cambridgeshire
Abode: Hadstock
Son of Josiah (Lab) and Abigail nee Smith - married 9th Feb 1884 in Linton

Mabel
Squires
Baptism: 27th May 1888 in Coleby, Lincolnshire
Daughter of William (Lab) and Jane Elizabeth nee Peck - married Oct-Dec 1875 Gainsborough District.

Twin sister, Maria, baptised on the same day.

Bit confused here, if Mabel was a widow and married Herbert Bellamy in 1941 why would her name be Mabel Bellamy (Hill) in 1939.

All the siblings have the surname Hill when some of them were born after she was married to Bellamy.
I wonder what the reason for that can be.
