Kendal family, Colchester
« on: Saturday 02 March 19 14:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone, does anyone know anything about the Kendal family from Colchester? I think they were Quakers, if that helps, I'm not sure if maybe there are specific Quaker church records. My ancestor was Daniel Blyth, baptized Sept. 20, 1729 and then, on 8 Oct 1751 in Elmstead, Essex he got married to Elizabeth Kendal. Marriage Licence: 1751 - Daniel Blyth of Elmstead and Robert Kendal of the same bound Daniel, 22, to Elizabeth Kendal, 25. He obtained a marriage license on 8 Oct 1751. Daniel, 22, and Robert Kendal paid £200 bond.

There's a draper named Robert Kendal living in Colchester, son of a Robert and Elizabeth Kendal, maybe he was a brother of Elizabeth who married Daniel Blyth?

Unless you find wills or other records you may never know.
There is a gap in the records of Elmstead from 1661 to 1729. St Anne and St Lawrence.

There is a William and Eliza/Elizabeth Kendal baptizing children at the same time as Daniel and Margaret Blyth, however the Elizabeth (and possibly her brother) were born before 1729.

William Kendall was one of the church wardens it is engraved on the register

Elizabeth Kendall of Elmstead widow wrote her will 3 March 1746, proved 27 February 1747.
mentions her three children William Elizabeth and Robert. They are to share everything equally.

The daughter Elizabeth could be the one who marries Daniel Blyth 1751

Robert Kendall, yeoman of Elmstead wrote his will 3 April 1754 he left bequest to his niece Mary Kendall and nephew William Kendall the remainder of his estate to his brother William Kendall.
proved 7 May 1768.

This could be the brother of Elizabeth

ADDED
When Elizabeth married both she and Robert were of Elmstead.

Ah, thank you all so much! Do I need to register on SEAX to view records?

I've been messing around a bit on Seax but unable to find the wills mentioned or the register about William Kendall as the church warden. Would I need to update my account for that?
