Just a bit of fun - Dad would love it.
« on: Saturday 02 March 19 15:55 GMT (UK) »
My late father kept everything to do with his time in the army, when I say everything I mean everything. From sign Up/Call up papers down to bus tickets, cinema tickets, receipts and much more, all in envelopes with place names and dates.  Plus many pictures of his time in Army including posting in  India, which he manages to make look like a holiday.  When I saw this one it just screamed out for a caption and of course I obliged. Its the sort of thing he would have added himself.

How lovely to,have so many mementoes.
Yes The English  and their tea,can you imagine what a boost it would be to have a cuppa when  you have faced a heavy engagement?
Amazing how the catering corps managed in such dreadful conditions. They may not have carried arms but their contributions were immeasurable.
Thankyou.
Viktoria.

An apt caption and what a wonderful photograph to have.

My dad kept lots of things too and I have them safely stored in a box. They include a programme for a
variety show put on by soldiers in Freetown, West Africa in 1942. It brings to mind the old TV show "It Ain't Half Hot Mum".

Memories are so precious Victoria, as well as the tangible ones he told many wonderful stories of his time in India, he was there 4 or 5 years and fell on love with it. When he was 18 in the T.A. he was on duty in a little Village a few miles from Arundel when he saw a German plane in distress, the pilot bailed out, he approached the pilot and did the first thing he thought of to avoid him  escaping, he tied his bootlaces together, i still smile when I think of this. Itís a true story. Dad was a great raconteur so much I have forgotten.

And  Dorrie,  what a coincidence amongst dadís stuff is a programme for a variety show as well.

Gosh your dad must have been a very brave young lad to have even approached the German pilot never mind tying his laces together.

Memories are such wonderful things and we must cherish them.
