Many thanks for  searching NG.
The Dobbs in nearby Alfreton as previous reply seem very probable.

I wouldn't treat Joseph's purported age at burial as set in stone.  It is common for old people to exaggerate their age and there wouldn't be too many people around to dispute their claims.

There are some Dobb Hucknall Torkard burials 1752-1819 on FindMyPast which would be worth a look if you haven't already done so.

For good measure "Lively Origins" History of the Bethel Methodist Church, South Normanton, Derbys by DM Grundy has 1850 Names and Residences of Sabbath Day Preachers and Exhorters J Dobb Hucknall Torkard.  Home Missionary Meeting Bleak Hall, Chair to be taken at six in the evening, Mr J Rhodes, Messrs J Green, J Tomlinson, J Hardy, S Bridgett, J Hodgkinson and J Dobb are expected to assist.
Derbys: Ward, Hopkinson, Bradley, Birds, Clarke, Taylor, Daykin, Gent, Vardy, Cotterill, Stocks, Godber, Dronfield, Charlesworth, Bonsall, Purseglove
Notts: Clarke, Freeman, Kitchen, Allcock, Housley, Swanwick, Berrisford, Farnsworth, Antcliffe
Staffs: Nutt, Bowring
Yorks: Holling, Fish, Kay, Hardy
Lincs: Plummer, Broughton, Wellbourne

Thanks for your reply Valerie.
Interesting your comment on ages.
Will investigate your two suggestions.

Re "Lively Origins"--I have a Joseph Dobb of Hucknall Torkard in my tree (1805-1878)  baptised "natural son",who I believe had convictions for assault, taking of game and two for trespass and poaching.
He doesn't seem to fit the bill !!

What a hoot!  Methodist Joseph must have despaired of his (presumed) relative Jack The Lad Joseph, unless of course he had seen the light?
