Will of Robert Dethe 1546, Acton, Suffolk
« on: Saturday 02 March 19 22:39 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate help in deciphering the above Will of Robert Dethe. The attached copy is of very poor quality, as is the original, and I have been unable to enhance it much due to its "patchiness". Any help would be much appreciated. Regards, francoso

That's incredible hd86 ! Thanks very much for your expertise and time. So we have Robert Dethe's wife as Isabel and his son as John, it seems ? Hope the remainder is as informative.

* The first letter is unclear.  It could be e or a.  It doesn't look like i or y.

Nevertheless I think the name is Is(a)bell in modern spelling.

** desers  Probably this = decease, but I can't rule out that it could mean desires.

Thanks so much hd86, your help is very much appreciated. I have another copy of the same Will in a different hand.
If I post it, would you be so good as to look through it and point out any differences between it and the version you have just deciphered ?

Regards, francoso.

Further to my reply above, could you please look at the following suggestions to see if agree with them:
i) Could it be "four nobles" left to each child;
ii) Could it be the "decease" of my mother ?
regards

You haven't posted an image from the second version, so this is based on the original image.

i):   It could be nobyls.  (Note that he had four so the gift was one to each child.)

ii):  As per Reply #3 above, it is written desers.  I think decease is the likely meaning.

Thanks again, hd86. This is the second copy of the Will (presumably). I would appreciate you having a look to see if there are any differences or clarifications.
