Missing Marriage
« on: Sunday 03 March 19 11:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I am trying to find the record of my G Grandfathers marriage.
William Carter was born in Manchester in 1857 and married Elizabeth Mullen (or Mullin) who was also born in Manchester in 1876. Their first child was born in 1876 with another in 1878.

The only record I have found was a William Thomas Carter marrying an Elizabeth Ann Mullin in 1872 in St Columb which is in Cornwall. Not only would he have been only 15 but both familes were  Manchester born and bred and I doubt they even knew Cornwall existed!

Paul
I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

To eliminate
The Elizabeth Ann Mullis who married at St Columb 5 October 1872 was a widow.  Transcript names her father as Charles Carter.  That William Carter was a mariner, his father was not named

Some birth registrations for the children and census references would help us identify them.  I don't think Elizabeth was born in 1876.

Thanks All,

Debra, as you probably guessed it was a typo and Elizabeth Mullen was born in 1856
Josey, William died in 1897 but Elizabeth was after 1925
Rosie, thanks for details of the Cornwall wedding.

Josey,

Thanks for the possibles. They are all after the birth of his first child but we know that's not unheard of. Elizabeth is the only name I have so perhaps it was to Mary Elizabeth in 1879 but thats after the first two children.....
