Mills family - Kelly’s Directory of Brighton
« on: Sunday 03 March 19 14:02 GMT (UK) »
Good afternoon

Would anybody be able to check out Kelly’s for me for 1904 and 1937 for a Mills with an unknown Christian name? In 1904 I am specifically looking for one that lived perhaps near Richmond Road. In 1937 I am hunting for one living in Lancing. I am sorry to be so vague. My DNA result has thrown up a total mystery so this is a possible long shot.

Best wishes and many thanks.

Brigcs

I just looked at fiche copies of directories in Hove library.
Towners directory 1904
9 Mayo Road T. Mills.
Pike's directory 1905
9 Mayo Road Edward Mills.

Mayo Road is right off Richmond Road Brighton.  There are other Mills in streets a bit further away.

Of course in a directory you only get one name so there may be a whole family living there.  And I suppose T.  could be Ted so perhaps the same person.

I had a quick look at 1910 but by then a Laycock was at 9 Mayo.
Lancing probably in a Worthing directory but the 1939 Register might help for that date?
Rutter, Sampson, Swinerd, Head, Redman in Kent.  Others in Cheshire, Manchester, Glos/War/Worcs.

Hi John.

I have only just returned to this and would like to thank you for looking at the fiche copies. I am possibly hunting for a T Mills so I need to try to dig a bit further. I thought I knew my family history but a DNA test has thrown a mystery spanner in the works.

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Best wishes Brigcs

Hi,

In Kelly's 1905 there is Mrs Mills 33 Gratwicke Road Worthing (Just off of Richmond Road), same in 1911, but not in 1915.
