Workhouse hospitals

Can anyone help me understand why someone dying in the workhouse in 1910 could leave £190 left to her son in a will always thought you had do be destitute living in the workhouse she had family it was my great great grandmother and always believed she lived with her daughter  my great grandmother until she died ?

She may have been admitted to the workhouse hospital as she was sick and not been a 'resident' at the workhouse.

The Diseases Prevention (Metropolis) Act 1833 allowed workhouse  infirmaries to treat non-paupers as well as paupers. Could it be your great great grandmother caught an infectious disease and was being treated for that in the workhouse infirmary when she died?
