JM, thank you so much, this could be my father, there are two names under this record, it may be the same person! Once again, thank you for your help!

Gilbert, thanks, yes on my birth cert he is John Woods born in St. Arnaud, Vic. I can search that too!

Yes,  indexed twice,  once under WOODS and once under BAKER.    :)

There's NOT two of them.  There is just the ONE, but it is indexed TWICE.   There is just the one reference number.   If you have ordered it twice,  make a phone call and cancel ONE of them.  You will get all the info on ONE order....

Thanks Gilbert! I think my father was married prior to meeting my mother and had children to his first marriage, I've often wondered about them ..

It seems as though he was possibly illegitimate, using his mother's surname & possibly either his father or stepfather's surname hence the reason he didn't talk about his family?

Hi Annie, yes there must be a reason why he didn't talk about his family, there could be many possibilities but until I find out more it'd be only guessing.

I am searching for information about my father, Lawrence Robert Baker, also known as John Woods. Born 13th of July, 1928 and he had a brother by the name of Lindsay. I think he came from Victoria and lived around Ivanhoe NSW.

If anyone has any information, I'd be very grateful.

Hi Lesley,
I am wondering about the name in your Topic heading Lawrence Robert BAKER.
The death registrations etc are not showing Lawrence at all, I am curious as to whether it was really a name used by your man.

In Victoria, on the Electoral Rolls , there is a family who have the names you have mentioned above
1949
BAKER, William Henry. At Wood Wood . Farmer
BAKER Lindsay William. At Wood Wood. Orchardist
BAKER, Winifred Caroline. At Wood Wood . HD

BAKER, Lawrence Robert. At Nyah (Swan Hill) Orchardist

Use Google to see the distances between the places mentioned and also St Arnaud.

Here is a death notice for Lindsay William BAKER
http://tributes.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/obituaries/bendigoadvertiser-au/obituary.aspx?n=lindsay-william-baker&pid=181219432

When Winifred Caroline died, her father’s name is given as EDEY, not WOODS. ???

Death
Winifred Carolin BAKER, aged 82. Father Robert EDEY. Mother Louise PHILLIPS.1977/ 11744. At Boroondara.

There was a marriage notice in 1923 which confirms the bride was the daughter of R EDEY of Berrimal.

The couple William Henry and Winifred Caroline BAKER seem to continue on the Electoral Rolls in the district.
William died
William Henry Baker, aged 84.Father George. Mother Elizabeth PRETTY. 1972/16384. At Cast. (?)

This may be just a series of co-incidences, but worth having a look at ;D
