Where is Margaret Alice Redman?

An impossible challenge?  Here is my Grandmother on the left. For many years I have assumed this is Littlehampton Beach.  However on looking closer at the structure behind her I am not sure. The mouth of the River Arun splits the beach in East and West Beaches. East has a very short pier, while East has a pier like structure stretching further out to sea.  Comparing with photos I found on google the construction doesn't look correct. It could be anywhere on South Coast,or just about anywhere,  possibly Herne Bay as she does have connections there and I know holidayed there in 40's.

The location could help identify the little girl and the other lady.

Correction ; whilst WEST has a pier like structure ......

I was wondering if it might be more a groyne than a pier. This is the kind of thing I have in mind:

NB - sun shining from the right, so it's likely to be south or east coast.

Yes Jen and Karen looks similar, but could they stand far enough out at low tide to not have entrance building in photo?
