DEMS Ships WW2
« on: Wednesday 06 March 19 11:47 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out which DEMS, James Nugent served on, born 1913 in Salford, died 26/6/1941 at sea.
He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and was then assigned to a DEMS vessel as a Gunner.

Anny clues how to find the ship he served on please?

Brian

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

A copy of his service record should help.  Here's how to apply:

DEMS gunners, especially Maritime Regiment,RA gunners are very difficult to research. If obtaining his service records - which should be the very first thing you do in researching any serviceman - ask for his Maritime Card. In my experience very few of these cards survive making it difficult to find the ship(s) the gunner served on. However, I can tell you through my own records the following:

NUGENT, James - Gunner, age 28, 1/1 Maritime AA Regiment, RA was serving aboard MALAYA II - details of the ship here: https://uboat.net/allies/merchants/ship/1013.html
