I suggest that you use Anc*stry DNA test.
Your sister might be also looking for her relations.
I do wish you are able to find each other.

Saw the idea on programme called Long Lost Families.

Can you at least reveal what country this was in, and what year?

Yes, USA 1984

Find out what the laws are for the state that the birth and the adoption took place in, and find someone locally who knows how to handle the search.

you stated in your first post:
"The place my mother had her is now closed and the adoption was a closed adoption"

There should be records with the state, I would think, no matter what agency closed. Also, the agency might have passed the records to another agency.

"and I've been told there are no records. I don't know how true that is."
Even with no adoptions in my family history I was told things that were not true. How much more likely with an adoption. Look for the records until you have convinced yourself there aren't any.

DNA is still the best way to go though, as someone previously suggested.

Thank you so much! This is the most helpful reply yet.
