No they are different regiments but servicemen were moved around to where they were most needed and sometimes given a new service number. I think after 1920? even if they were moved they kept the same regiment number.

The UK, WWI Service Medal and Award Rolls, 1914-1920 has a William FRANCIS Flanagan with the London Regiment.
Regimental number 535432
Sub Unit -   15th (County of London) Battalion (P.W.O. Civil Service Rifles)

Were all the units and service numbers you give actually on his death certificate?

Hi crisane,

Thankyou for answering my message, my grandfather died in Aldershot, but his ashes were scatted in a cemetery in Co Down, N.Ireland.

The priest had information on my grandfather and his army numbers.

Would you know if there are such Reg No's for him and his Royal Irish Fusiliers.

You say your grandfather married in 1909 but the 1911 census reference you give with him in India has him as a single man and there are no wife or children with the surname Flanagan with the company in India. Of course they may not have gone with them.
I think you need to do your own research starting with what you know to be fact.
Is his birth date and place correct? did you follow him back from your father's marriage and birth certificates so you are sure you have the correct records for your grandfather?
Three marriages? 1909, 1915 and 1916? Are you sure of this? Do you have the marriage certificates?

Hi Crisane,

Just a couple of weeks back i found out William married in 1909 to Kate Bulpitt, and my mother and aunts didnt know anything about it, and come to them a complete shock.

He married twice in 1915 and 1916 in Cork to my grandmother Cecilia Catherine Moore, 1915 in a C of I church, and 1916 in a RC church

Yes i have the 3 marriage certs.

Maybe i have to look into the records at the National Archives at kew for his Royal Irish Fusiliers Reg. No.

His medal roll indicates he went overseas first with 12/London Regt. with no. 5027 which gives an attestation or transfer date of Feb./March 1916. As the London Regt. was TF he was then given the no. 535432 as part of the reorganisation of the TF in 1917.
He was then transferred to the Lab. Corps with no. 488111. It's possible he was wounded or suffered illness which rendered him less than A1 fit & posted to the LC which was a common route for such men.
Although it doesn't answer your question he could have joined the RIF as early as 1904 so could have had a number around 8290 as this was the start of the sequence in Jan. of that year. By 1909 service numbers were around 10300.
