Hi jim1,

Thankyou for bit of info,  i found on the National Archives site in 1917 a W. Flanagan of the RIF was trialed and court marshalled, that might be him.

Do you think at the National Archives there  might be any other records of my William with the RIF, i live half hour drive away from the NA.

Newspaper wedding notice for the 1909 marriage states William Frederick Flanagan was the only son of Mr & Mrs Flanagan, the Pall Mall, Waterford.

Some points to ponder.

Was there a Pall Mall in Waterford? He was noted as bachelor in both marriages to Cecilia. Also, do you have his birth certificate? It isn't  appearing in searches, unless I've maybe missed it under an alternative spelling of Flanagan. Ignore, was looking at wrong year of birth

Some reason transcribed as Pall Mall in the newspaper, that should be The Mall, i do think William did tell a fib or two he lied about his age when marrying in 1909 and also and when marrying to my gran in 1915 and 1916 stating he was a bachelor, when he wasn't. :-\

Hi jim1,

I researched a bit since last message, on the 1901 Irish Census my grandfather William Flanagan 14yrs was in a school for boys in Belfast, Co Antrim, three years later in 1903 The Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria’s) was deployed also at Belfast then in 1906 moved onto Dublin.

jim1 it looks like my William joined up with The Royal Irish Fusiliers between 1903-1906, are there such records for that period.

Regards
