Glyntaff look ups - Phillips Pontypridd
« on: Thursday 07 March 19 10:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi  I wonder if anyone can help me with a look up at Glyntaff Crematorium for one of my uncles.  My grandmother I am told lost quite a few children twins at birth.  I have now found one childs death.  I have been told Glyntaff is one of the oldest crematoriums in Wales so feel if I can confirm that  Charles was buried there maybe I can then find other children that may have been cremated or buried there.    I have the details as: Charles Phillips Born 08/12/1929 and died 09/12/1929.  The death certificate indicates it was a premature birth.  The parents were Annie Ellen Thomas and William Henry Phillips.   The lived in Trethomas from 1917 - 1933.
 Any help would be appreciated.

thank you in anticipation.

The marriage was June qtr 1921 so have you looked for births from that date in the Newport M registration district then checked for an infant death in the same RD?  It may help to determine the names of other children who died

Glyntaff was indeed the earliest crematorium in Wales, and opened in 1924.  The records are still with Glyntaff Crematorium themselves, and they've also got the registers for Glyntaff Cemetery (on the same site) - and the staff there should be able to assist with a lookup. :) Their phone number is 01443 402810, but I can't see an email address for them online.

If the people you're searching for lived in Trethomas, though, I wonder if their young children would have instead been buried in one of the cemeteries now under Caerphilly County Borough - although I must admit my local knowledge is a bit sketchy outside of Rhondda-Cynon-Taf, so am not sure which cemetery (Bedwas Cemetery is probably the closest, but I don't think they were opened as early as that).  You could try contacting Caerphilly's bereavement's department - there's a contact form on their website: https://eforms.caerphilly.gov.uk/forms/webCACFINFO101.aspx?section=Bereavement%20services

Hi Simon,

Thank you for the information in regard to my request.  Quite honestly I had not contacted caerphilly council as I have tried to find other family members and they could not locate them in Bedwas or Penyrheol, or Abertridwr cemeteries.  However, now that you have brought it to my attention I have sent caerphilly an email to see if they can locate anything for me before proceeding with Glyn Taff.

Thanks again

Hi simon,
Just posting an update I have been in touch with glyn taff who indicate that I should be looking at Newport as the children are more likely to  have been buried in that area as my surviving  uncles were all born in Wooloston House and the family may not have had a choice where the burials took place even though they lived in trethomas and bedwas was close to them.  She does indicate the information for that period kept by the cemeteries were pretty  sketchy.  The bereavement service suggested I contact  St. Barrwgs Church & Cemetery which I have done and awaiting a reply.

Thanks again for your help
