William Morris Death certificate
« on: Thursday 07 March 19 14:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi I've recently come to a problem with regards to an ancestor named William Morris who died age 6 in 1841 .

He died on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales . I have found his gravestone which says he passed away on the 11th of September 1841 . Now the problem I have is that I cannot locate his death certificate I have purchased all of the certificates for a William Morris who died in that area in 1841 and none are a match .

I can only assume that there is no death certificate but I thought you weren't able to be buried after 1837 unless a death certificate was issued so I'm a bit confused . Anybody have any ideas ?

If a anyone carried out a burial for which the Certificate ( that the Death has been duly registered) had not been made and delivered, as the 1836 act required, either by the Registrar or Coroner, they had to give notice  to the Registrar within Seven Days,  if they did not they were liable to a fine not exceeding ten Pounds, however some deaths may not have been registered.

This is the only one on GRO, are you sure he died where he's buried?

The two instances submitted by wrjones - page 236 is aged 26, and page 237 is aged 37 - GRO.

There are no instances of a death registration in September quarter 1841 for William Morris aged 6 - GRO.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I’ve attached a photo of the gravestone it’s in Welsh but you can make out the date on it. The cemetery is St.Marys which is located next to the Menai Straights in Anglesey
