Was Charles already a Police Constable when he married Ellen Flinn?

Hi all thank you for your interest I know how difficult the Irish Research is for sure,  but you have given me an insight into corn milling.

I think he was son of James and Winifred McKay, MacKay circa 1829 Ireland Sligo. Dont know anything about James McKay (corn miller) but Winifred appears over here in Lancashire.

Charles McKay at time of his marriage in 1853 St John Rochdale RC was listed as a traveller, but on other records he was also a Barometer Dealer or Optician's traveller.  He was in the Borough Police  Force at one time and notes in the paper (local) about arresting people etc.  Probably about 1857 to 1861 Also at the time of the Murphy Riots 1860's he was a Sgt then and got injured.  He was on the Local Board of Guardians (Poor Law) after that he kept a public house in Rochdale. -  The Shepherd's Boy -   In 1861 Census stated born Sligo Ireland. 

First marriage RC

wife Ellen died  23 April 1870 

2nd marriage was C of E at Manchester Cathedral Mary Farran or Mellor

Winfred McKay obituary in Rochdale Observer 17 Jan 1880 widow of James McKay corn miller.  Union Workhouse Dearnley (Rochdale) Death certificate as well.

Buried RC Rochdale Cemetery, Winifred, Charles , William a large plot purchased with 20 burials in it infants etc.  no stone or memorial.

It is difficult with spelling of the name.
I would doubt that the Winifred you found in Tipperary is the same Winifred. You may have discounted her though already.

I asked re the occupation because there is this record too -just another to add to the maybe/nots

An ancestor ran a corn mill in Ireland in 1800s but was also a farmer. Any documents I've come across (death certificate, children's birth marriage & death certificates, church records, etc.) list him only as 'farmer.'
The man that worked in his mill was listed in various records as 'miller' and 'labourer.'
As in most places in Ireland in 1800s, the ancestor did not own his property (land with house & out buildings & two mills) but was a tenant.
