James Hughes Philadelphia
« on: Thursday 07 March 19 15:32 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the birth certificate of my grandfather James Hughes born in Philadelphia around 1905 / 08 - do not know what area. He was brought back to Ireland as a young lad by either an older sister or aunt. He married my grandmother Cathryn Ferguson in Donagmore in Tyrone 1935, he served in the British army Pioneer corps can't get any army records, tried but not got enough info on him. They had two children one born in castlecaufield and one in Cookstown Tyrone. Jame's father was called Henry.

I think you need to ask the moderator to move this to the USA board if James was born in Philadelphia.
Researching: Cuthbertson – Co. Derry, Scotland & Australia; Hunter – Co. Derry; Jackson – Co. Derry, Scotland & Canada; Scott – Co. Derry; Neilly – Co. Antrim & USA; McCurdy – Co. Antrim; Nixon – Co. Cavan, Co. Donegal, Canada & USA; Ryan & Noble – Co. Sligo

A Philadelphia birth certificate will be in Philadelphia not County Tyrone- best to post on U.S. board for advice although information to order certificate easily found online.

At the end there's a link to courthouses if before 1906-
https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/certificates/Pages/Birth-Certificates.aspx

You can check the index on Family Search but not all births around that time got registered- if you do find the birth indexed then you should be able to view the records at an LDS library but you might want to contact your local one ahead of time to verify this is possible-

Hard to know where to post on here as I am looking for I suppose a range of info on James Hughes, I was thinking Hughes in the States would look in Tyrone to find out info on their ancestors and perhaps recognize a James Hughes. I don't know how it all works as I am new,,, where is the U.S board on here I can't see it

Thanks for your help  everyone it is a wee bit hard trying to find out how to operate new boards. I think James may have come back to Ireland for phila before 1911

Talk about lack of common sense by whoever did 1911 census transcribing!!

Differentiating between United states... and America!   ::)  ::) when that 'field' could easily have been combined for Searches under United States/America to get both regardless!
