Richard and Eleanor wedding 1738
« on: Thursday 07 March 19 22:23 GMT (UK) »
Is it possible someone could take a peek at the marriage certificate of Richard Ellis and Eleanor from 1738 Shrewsbury? Sure he is my GFX7. He married Eleanor Haynes or Haines. One record says he is widowed and the other says she is!? Would be interesting to see the signatures. He is 30 at the time but do finding his birth is difficult

So the marriage books were practically unreadable, but I did find a copy of the marriage bond.  Richard Ellis is a widower and Eleanor Haynes (or Hughes) aged 30, Spinster, both of the parish of Wellington. They married at St Chad's.

OK further to the above, I managed to figure out which entry was for your ancestors, and all it said is

AUGUST

6) Ellis, Rd; Elinor Haynes

that's from the Shromspire Marriages record set on Findmypast, while the former was from the Staffordshire, Diocese of Lichfield & Coventry Marriage Allegations and Bonds, 1636 - 1893 record set.

Hope that helps!

Registration certificates for birth, marriage and death were not in existence prior to 1837.  Before that all you will get are parish registers containing details of baptisms, marriages and burials.

They are parish records, and some are better than others.
