What happened to Sibyl Marion SMITH?
« on: Friday 08 March 19 13:54 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to locate Sibyl Marion SMITH beyond the 1911 census.

She was my gt grandfather's sister, born 6th June 1895 in Lambeth. I have her on the 1901 census in Battersea with her mother Jane SMITH. She is in some workhouse records (North Surrey District Anerley Road) and I believe she was still there on the 1911 census.

Beyond that I am struggling to find either a marriage or a death for her. I was recently looking at some old photos of my gt grandad's (born 1893) family and although there are numerous ones of some other younger siblings there were none at all of Sibyl (that I'm aware of anyway - they had been labelled quite extensively by my grandad before he died) so it's as if she had disappeared.

There is a marriage for a Sybil Marion SMITH in London 1926 born abt 1895, however she married an Edward LORING and there is a 1964 death in Gloucestershire for a Sybil Marion LORING born abt 1891 - so I think this is the Sybil Marion SMITH born Gloucester Dec qtr 1892 rather than my Sibyl (note different spelling also).

Can anybody help me find a marriage and/or death?

Thanks, yeah I saw the certificate and I'm sure it's not my Sibyl - father details are wrong (although I've seen completely fabricated father details on a marriage certificate before so am wary!)

Perhaps she went to Canada, e.g. under the child migration scheme?

The death of Sibyl Marion Day aged 68 in Duncan, B.C., in September 1964 may be relevant.

Possible marriage in England:

Sibyl M Smith
Henry E Day

Jun qtr 1924 Ticehurst 2b 264.

So if she did go to Canada, it wasn't as a child migrant.

Thank you! This looks very promising...age of death in Canada correct and it looks like they emigrated in the same quarter as their marriage. There were no other Sibyl Marion Smiths born that I can find so I'm tentatively thinking this is surely her?
