Help with working out the right William Perrin
« on: Friday 08 March 19 17:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I am posting this in the common room because I need help in either Aylesbury, Croydon or the Army. I think I have the wrong ancestor? how to work out?
William Perrin Born Aylesbury.
What I do know is his marriage to Sarah Ann  Burnette in Croydon. I was told that he came from Aylesbury & his mother was Elizabeth. On the marr cert it gives age of 22 (1842). I have never seen the original just a transcript & that does not mention a father?
I got what I thought was his birth cert, 5th Dec 1852 Aylesbury Workhouse. Mother Elizabeth Perrin.
Bapt 15th Dec 1842 Saint Mary Aylesbury. Mother Elizabeth.  I found what I thought was Elizabeth (1825) in 1841 census dau of William & Lydia & have been following that line.
In the 1851 found Elizabeth (1822) in Aylesbury workhouse (single) & 3 children , William Henry (1843) Ann (1847) & Thomas (1849). I thought her age was just rough guess as often happens. I also thought William Henry was just a name she added since birth.
By chance I spotted A William Perrin born Aylesbury 1843 living in Hampshire in the 1881 census.
I have never found another William born around that time in Aylesbury so always presumed I had the right one. But now I have found another William Henry Bapt 16 Jul 1843 Quainton (Aylesbury) to mother Elizabeth. I still cant find the Birth for this one? This Elizabeth was dau of Sam &Anne Perrin bapt 12th Aug 1821.
I have now found the other William in the 1851 census Aylesbury Temple Sq School William Perrin 1841 Pupil.
So it looks like there were 2 Elizabeth’s single mothers having children.  I have not managed to find either boys or mothers in the 1861 census.
I am not sure now on which is my Elizabeth & William? He had a son William Born in Croydon in 1865 & soon after he went into the army & was killed in India  before 1870 as I found his wife remarried out there to Edward Hounslow.  Unless I can find his Army records which would give a date of birth or some clue in 1861 census.
Any ideas on which to try next?  (the only other thing that came down through the family was Elizabeth Married her cousin also William Perrin, but I have never found a marriage for that)
Sorry it’s a bit long winded wanted to give as much info as poss
Regards
Den

That's a bit tricky to follow on a Friday afternoon!

Starting with the basics:

William Perrin, 20, bach, driver in the Royal Artillery, abode Woolwich, married Sarah Ann Burnett (19) at Croydon parish church on 29 May 1864.  No father's details are entered for William (a line is drawn through the relevant boxes).  Witnesses: James William Pearce; Emily Skelton?.

Son: William Perrin, born in Croydon Jun qtr 1865 I think?

Did they go to India? I see that by 1881 Sarah is remarried to Edward Hounslow and has Bombay-born children with him.

Am trying to see whether William snr appears on an English census after his marriage (for a birthplace).

The first of the Hounslow children, Edward George Hounslow, was born 8 July 1872 and baptised 29 July 1872 in Bombay - parents Edward & Sarah Ann Hounslow - so presumably William Perrin was dead by 1871.

I wonder therefore why you were looking at a William Perrin b Aylesbury in the 1881 census?  Is there any good reason to think that Aylesbury is relevant to the William who married Sarah Ann in 1864?
