ID for British Army medals 1850/60s
« on: Saturday 09 March 19 17:26 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if the experts here can ID the medals in the attached photo crop. The photo was taken in 1914 but the medals are from the 1850/1860s, and may (or may not) have some connection with the Indian Mutiny.

Many thanks,
Flemming.

Wonder if the one on the left is the Indian Mutiny Medal -

Can you read any words on the medal?

The left hand Medal the Indian Mutiny Medal, the clasps may be Relief of Lucknow and Lucknow. The  middle the India General Service Medal. I don’t known about the one on the right.

Someone else may have the answer.

Possibly the Second China War medal, similar time frame, wide central colour to the ribbon.  Maybe.

Another idea for the third Medal, one awarded by the Sultan of Turkey for service against the Russians 1854-6, received by every British Soldier who had the Crimea Medal. Just a guess from the style and ribbon.

I would discount the China  War Medal which has a suspender, the one in the Photo does not.

Addendum
Much more likely the Turkish Medal.

I agree that the ribbon looks correct for the Turkish Crimea Medal -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Crimea_Medal

However I do question how the medal is attached to the ribbon compared with the above link.

The link below is how the medal appears to be attached but not the correct ribbon.  ???

Is the owner known (number/rank/name/regiment)??   Medal records for the period are to be found.
