« on: Saturday 09 March 19 22:44 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone look up the birth of my ancestors Samuel Scorthorne b c 1774 and his wife Ann b c 1784
In the 1841 census for
Norton Cuckney Piece 849 Book 12 Folio 8 Page number 9.
They are born outside of the county of Notts but I am not sure where.
I would love to find Ann's Maiden name and both of their parents but am not sure where to start as I don't know where they were born. His daughter Ann was b 1816 Cuckney.if you can help me with this brick wall I would be very greatful :)

Hi emjsw,

there's not much here to help you as place of birth isn't listed on the 1841 census.

The only information is that Samuel Scorthorne, ages 60, not of the parish, is an agricultural labourer. His wife Ann (56) and daughter Mary (9 - is born in Notts) are also listed.

I assume that this is the same Samuel who died in 1846 in Worksop?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

emjsw - a possible lead for you:

in 1861 there is an Ann Scorthorne, widow, living with an unmarried daughter, Sarah Scorthorne (53, born 1808) and a widowed daughter, Elizabeth Simpson (56) and her daughter.

It states Ann is from Yorkshire originally, and the granddaughter was born in Sheffield. It might be nothing, but it is probably worth investigating, if only to rule it out.
