In the 1881 Census there is an Ann Keirs [Ann Anderson] who was born in Preston Mill RG11; Piece: 5115; Folio: 15; Page: 7

Stan

Tracing that one back the birthplace changes to Carham in earlier censuses  :-\

The person Stan refers to is with her mother Phyllis, and earlier censuses show her father to be John.

Ann Anderson, daughter of Phillis and John, baptised Carham, abode Presson Hill, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-64V3-JHS?i=182&cc=1309819&cat=1804230

Allan, is this the same person?

I hope I am on the right track. (If not it's been interesting anyway)
Here is Pressen, complete with its Mill Lead

Preston Mill could be the enumerators interpretation of  Presson Hill from the Household Schedule.

It was called Preston on Armstrong's 1769 map of Northumberland (bottom r-h corner of map).

But I still don't know if we're actually following the correct person  ::)

Hi all,

Just back after a few days away.

A friend who lives in the northern part of Northumberland believes that a mill called Fallodon Mill (approx. 1 mile south east of Preston hamlet) used to be referred to as Preston Mill. Guess I'll never be able to prove this unless the Northumberland Archives can assist.
