Where else to look for a marriage?
« on: Sunday 10 March 19 19:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am trying to find the marriage of Lawrence/Laurence Burke and Margaret Costello. In the 1911 census it says they have been married 9 years. This seems correct as I can find Lawrence on his own in the 1901, but no further record of Margaret anywhere. She is my brickwall. I only know her surname is Costello from the children's birth records. They lived in Nutgrove or Feebrack, Tynagh. No record of them on the Irish Genealogy website.

Sorry I am quite new to the Irish side of Genealogy.
Kind regards, Samantha

Maybe Married outside Ireland  OR  did not Register it.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Maybe not registered as Hallmark says.

Here is 1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Pallas/Feebrack__or_Nutgrove/472865/

Thomas Joseph is 7 yrs

Here is his birth - 1904 with a note ‘registered on Statutory Declaration’ there are more on the page.

Not sure what that means - other than not registered at the correct time of birth. :-\

Thanks very much. Was it common for marriages not to be registered? Or would they not have been married at all? Common with my English side, but I don't know about in Ireland!

Kind regards

Hi
I guess the problems we sometimes have with finding marriages in England will apply in Ireland too!

Got Margaret's death, 30 May 1931, age 52. She died at the Central Hospital, Galway.

Thanks very much for that. Can anyone suggest another way to find Margaret's parents? I match with some Costellos on Ancestry DNA, but they haven't got enough info on their trees for me to work out the link.

I thought Margaret could have been married previously but I can’t see a marriage for Laurence Burke to Margaret anybody at the right time.
