I don’t think that’s him from 1841 census ,  not found John on 1871 census either thanks for all your suggestions

Not too convinced on my theory as in 1851 there appears to be a John and Mary Alcock with son John aged 9 born Epwell , living in Epwell :(

I had just that minute found that and was about to post!

Also, the Mary Ann married to the Moses Hancock would have been very young to have married and have had John by 1843!!

It is proving very confusing, nothing seems to fit unfortunately.
There is a baptism 12 Feb 1943 St Marys,Southampton on Ancestry
John Alcock
Parents Moses and Elizabeth
But again wrong area and can t find in registrations. Another  idea.. could he have been born James and known as John? (unlikely)
What is Moses' occupation on the marriage certificate and  Johns address on same?

John was married 1865 in great wyrley staffs , father Moses was a a railway contractor
