How to get into Jersey 1970

What immigration procedures would an Irishman, coming from England, have had to follow to reside in Jersey in the 1970s? Was there any record kept of those who became resident?

He would be treated the same as British folk, there wasn't much in the way of Social Security & tax was paid in the second year so working a year in Jersey then a year in Guernsey etc' was a bit of a scam! Buying a house under a certain price was problematic if you were a non-native, unless you married one. No problem for tax-dodgers with cash.

OK Jerry, mostly seasonal workers so needed! Later influx of Portugese speakers from Madiera.

I was shortlisted for a job in Guernsey in 1993 - the procedure was similar to Jersey, but with some differences.

Anyone could rent a 1 bedroomed flat.
For bigger property, you were allowed to enter the housing market at a level commensurate with your income. So you couldn't deliberately rent/buy a cheaper property.

To move to either island, you had to have a job, or guaranteed income over a certain level. From memory about half a million per year? But I may be wrong on that score!
I think you also needed a work permit?

In 1994 I moved to the Isle of Man - where there were more relaxed conditions!
But I needed a work permit for 10 years.
