John CULLEY, born 1834/1836, Hampshire

Hello,

TNA Reference ADM 157/500/62 states that John CULLEY alias George KINSMAN was born in Hampshire and that Attestation Papers indicated he joined the Royal Marines at Portsmouth in 1854 and was discharged in 1872 "as dead".   Possibly the 1861 Census (RG9/4437/20, p.20) supports his enlistment.

I cannot find any other information relating to his enlistment/service and wonder if he was the John CULLEY who spent 4 years in Parkhurst Prison between 1850 and 1854, being released aged about 20 on 20/09/1854 (Licence No: 1642).   In 1850 before his imprisonment he was living in Romsey and his father was Charles CULLEY resident in Stockbridge, Hampshire......his prison records state he was born in the 35th Regiment ???

Hopefully someone can help, confirming or otherwise, that the above John CULLEY's are one and the same person.

Thank you,
