I see there is a submitted tree on Ancestry for Richard BAILEY and his wife Grace and their children.  I see it includes a lass born in 1850 and who married in NSW in 1875, widowed in 1889, remarried in 1889 and she died in NSW in 1894.  Catherine ROGERS, formerly OFFORD, nee BAILEY.   Her younger sister is shown as born in NEW ZEALAND in 1855 .... and then her brother John in 1857 is shown as born at Beechworth Victoria ... Likely he is the one Dundee has noted  :D  :D

I am not sure that that tree owner has actually obtained the documents or is simply relying on the info contained in the online INDEXES ....

But just in case, it may be that Richard and Grace were in Victoria by 1852 as it seems that submitter believes there is a birth for them at Geelong for a son named Richard, and sadly a death for that infant at Breakwater.

The Vic BDM online index has a death for a Richard BAILEY in 1853, unknown parents, #24602.

I cannot identify the birth in 1852 or the death in 1853 of an infant named Richard BAILEY at the Vic BDM online index ... https://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/research-and-family-history/search-your-family-history .... BUT ....
Findagrave has a memorial https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/163577581 and the Ancestry Index for Vic deaths has the reference #24602 as showing the deceased was aged 1.  (Same reference no. as the Vic BDM online index, the new version of Vic BDM is a much lesser version than previously)

So perhaps they moved from South Australia to Victoria,  to New Zealand and then back to Victoria  before returning to NZ....

So from the submitted tree,  Grace married in NZ on 12 June 1868 at the Bridge Street Chapel, Nelson.  I think NZ marriages in that decade may be scant on info, but SHOULD at least show her status ... WIDOW ...   This husband was noted on this submitted tree as John William Edward Lively DAY.

Noticing the surname LIVELY for the captain of that ship in 1847 that Gerry found ... it is also a given name for Grace's NZ husband ...

Richard BAILEY a wood cutter in the Murray Scrub in 1851.   He had 200 tons of wood cut, waiting for it to be fetched in, and the Copper company had not fetched it in for more than a month …. Wow, 200 tons cut and ready … and he knew to take court action in the Magistrates court at Kooringa…

That would be the copper mine at Burra. One of the biggest in the world at the time I believe. Lots of Cornish miners came out to work there, as well as the the Copper Triangle.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Carrington, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Bentham, Holloway, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Yorks, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Wow thanks for all the info thus far. It has proved difficult to find info on Richard. I have possibly found a 1841 England Census for him with no family listed. I will post a link as soon as possible. Also i have one of the trees for Richard on ancestry also there is one listed under Jengolds who is a direct descendent of him. As mentioned no one has provided definitive records as of yet. I am willing to do the work but am just learning the process for Australia.

Good to hear from you,

Dundee has given you some excellent advice,  the depth of detail on Vic BDM documents,  including their downloadable pdf births are exceptional.  To me, that birth registration would be very high on my MUST HAVE list,  way way higher than the 1848 m.c..

Their son John waes born in Victoria in 1857 - do you have that birth certificate?  It should give Richard's place of birth, age and occupation.

I have not been able to locate the actual certificate to see if further information was revealed.........I have also not been able to locate Graces death certificate but she is listed under the New Zealand death index (1848-1966) dated 1887 registered in Ahaura, Aukland New Zealand.

You have to purchase certificates from the relevant registries.
