Henry William MINTER, born 1842, St.Lawrence, Ramsgate

Hello,

Henry William MINTER married 20 year old Mary Ann PAY on 09/05/1864 in St. Lawrence.

The 1871 England Census (RG10/994/66, p.31) seems to indicate Mary MINTER is a "Widow", although I may be misinterpreting the marital status abbreviation as "W" rather than "M"!!!   The age is correct and the reference to the surname "PAY" in the household would probably confirm the widow's correct identity.  However, assuming she is a widow I can find neither a death entry for Henry William MINTER nor any mention of him after 1871

Any help or suggestions more than welcome please.

It is a W - the entry above shows Mar  for the head of the house Sarah Woodhead.
On that entry Mary is described as Sarah's daughter, was Sarah previously married to a Pay.

ADDED There is also a Martin Minter age 7 Son of W(idow) does this tie in with what you know

Mary Minter has the surname Woodward in brackets so was she Mary Ann Pay or someone else

What occupation did Henry have?  Could he have been at sea or otherwise off the radar.

Can't see a birth for that Martin but marriage Rosie found confirms fathers name.

There is a Fanny Morphew Minter mothers name PAY born Mar 1865 Thanet if she is one of yours too.

However death for that Fanny Dec 1867 age 2

The Martin MINTER reference is probably to Martin Henry Minter PAY born in Thanet in the first quarter of 1864 according to the GRO.......mother's maiden name not quoted.

A footnote to my post.

I googled Henry William MINTER and found the "MinterExchange" website, the author of which did not offer any details beyond the 1871 Census?? 

Incidentally, "Deaths at Sea" had no mention.
