Matthew Todd Anderson, Henry Cochrane Smith Shennan
« on: Thursday 14 March 19 14:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am researching my ancestors and have some names (see subject line). The family were living in Ayr, Scotland in 1930's and married into the Cloy family. I am wondering if anyone could help as I am not getting very far.

You have posted on the WW2 subject area where the answer you are likely to get is that WW2 records are not on line but can, subject to the conditions, be applied (and paid) for.

Would it not be better to post on a Scotland board for family information??

Are you looking on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk? If not, that's where you need to be.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi sekelund

Can you maybe expand a little on Matthew and Henry? What info do you have so far and what info in particular are you looking for?

Guessing you already have some of the basic details? Such as these for Matthew:

1909 -  likely birth for Matthew in Kilmarnock
1938 - marriage to Minnie Cloy in Ayr
1996 - his death, at the age of 86, in Dalmellington. Mother's maiden name McCutcheon

For Henry, some basic details for him:

Agnes was born in 1903, in Ayre, Scotland.

These details are confirmed from the index on Scotlands People.
