I wonder if this is related - Merrigold/Marigold is an unusual name in the area

In 1851 there is an Elizabeth Marigold age 26 b Bawdsey Suffolk - married and a Soldiers Wife living Hamlet of Pockthorpe   Norfolk


Added - in 1851 this Elizabeth is double counted and is living Thorpe, Norwich

Could Elizabeth Merrigold b 1825 Bawdsey with father George (although mother Elizabeth)  be a sister of Lucy's

Well the 1845 birth for Matthew William Merrigold would have to be the one that jumps out at me.  Does it give a mother's name at all?  Or even a father's name?

He used the name Matthew William Merrigold on some occasions; and on others dropped the Matthew.  On return to UK he used both christian names in 1891 and 1901 and 1911 census.
I just couldn't find a birth for a Matthew William Merrigold/Merigold/Marygold/Merrygold in Ipswich so your find is important and I would have to go with that one.

I didn't find  a birth for a Matthew William Merrigold/Marigold in 1846 and was posting the post 1881 on the census/death to show the first name of Matthew and help with searching.

I wonder he could be the child of James and Elizabeth Marigold and as I can't see a marriage for the couple I wonder if he was registered as Hubbard??
