Identify uniform and medal
« on: Friday 15 March 19 12:09 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to identify the uniform and medal.  The uniform looks post WW2 battle dress.  I think the soldier in the picture is an officer, more so better quality Battle Dress and he is wearing a tie.  Due to the picture being bw I canít mKe out the medal ribbon and it seems to have a piece of metal attached heíd to the ribbon? Could in be the MM. ? Thanks Keith

The BD could be during WW2 not necessarily afterwards.  The ribbon certainly looks like the MM with a rosette indicating a second award "MM and Bar" (the bar was for the full medal ribbon with medal attached).

You should be able to find the London Gazette entries for the two awards (I assume you have his name?))

Sorry but I don's agree.  It is not the MM but the North Africa Star with the numeral 8 quite clearly visible.  This would date it in the second half of the war after the ribbon had been issued for the North Africa campaign but before 1946 when the remainder of the medals would have been worn.

Thanks for the update...but why was it issued long before all of the other campaign medals ?
