I'm with Erato here.  Why should they know whether you're using your birth surname or not?

I get the same thing from FindMyPast.  Were my (surname) ancestors war heroes?  How Irish were they?  And on and on .......................................

Bless them for trying to help, but that's not my family.  It's not even my husband's family.  It's my husband's mother's third husband's surname, and he was both stepfather and adoptive father, hence the (purely technical) name change.

I don't see how FindMyPast could be expected to work all that out from my email address/username
In fact, thinking about it, I'd be extremely worried if they could

I think this is common, even with Ancestry when surnames themselves are 'common'.  Imagine my Lancashire lot:  Taylors, Butterworth, Whittakers - in the 19th century these were the 3 most common surnames so I'm getting "potential father" etc. all the time.  I take a quick peak just in case but 99 percent of the time they are not 'mine'.  I agree, ignore it.

My apologies to everyone, BUT I now realise that I did NOT make myself clear in the first instance.

I was contacted, personally, via e-mail, by My Heritage to create an on-line family tree.  It was NOT a case of my accepting a "Hint".

Added:  And especially so as I had not looked at My Heritage for ANY member of my family.  I was actually seeking information on behalf of someone else.
