Daughter-in-law?

I have a census where there is a 'daughter-in-law'; however, she is registered as 'unmarried'.  Am I to assume that she may possibly be a step-daughter?  It's a non-direct branch I'm following but as it's got some relevance to one of 'my lot', I thought I'd travel along it a little.

Yes she will be a stepdaughter.  Daughter-in-law was the more commonly-used term for this relationship in 19th century records.

I have several step children referred to as son or daughter in law.
