That's a good question Rosie.
I have our W H Machin in 1891 with his family and nothing until a 1905 New York passenger list in 1905.
I have just found a William Machin in Los Angeles, CA - Silent film actor. Machin appeared in almost twenty films from 1915 to 1922. He died of tuberculosis at Olive View Sanitarium. Born in Coventry supposedly on 12th December 1885 and died on 9th September 1928 in Sylmar, Los Angeles County.

Charles Ephraim Machin (father) was a theatre manager, so this looks interesting.

So I'm going off on a tangent, but it would still be good to know about Annie Porter.

Charles and wife Mary in 1891 with son Willie age 8 born Coventry.  Hope that is the right Willie.

I apologise for leading you all "up the garden path." I'm pretty sure I've tracked down our William Henry (Will) Machin (I), but I still don't know who Annie Porter was who married the other W H Machin (II).

If there are no newspaper reports of the wedding/marriage, one would have to buy the certificate to get to the bottom of this.
