Private A MARR
« on: Monday 18 March 19 14:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi can anyone help regarding the above Private A Marr  s/18116 Gordon Highlanders. I bought his pair of medals yesterday. But as far as i can see he was not killed, has no Medal Index card nor can i find any service records. Is there any other avenue to try and find some information on him. Thanks in advance .

Ah Cathy so it might be a mistake on the Medal or the person that sold it online has thought it was Marr instead of Mair.Thanks.

Medal card https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D3928227  No service record surviving.  His medal roll entry (Ancestry) shows he served overseas with 9th Battalion Gordons.

His SWB record is clearly a misprint of his surname (unless the other two records are!).

FindMyPast's "Silver War Badge Roll" record includes "Age - 23" and "Cause of Discharge - Para 2 B (1) 392 xvi."

Paragraph 392 of the 1912 edition of the King's Regulations contained all the official causes of discharge, and these were set out in sub paragraphs -

Sub paraxvi - No longer physically fit for war service

Hi thanks for that hanes teulu, very interesting no longer fit at 23 years old, I suppose there were plenty more around that age who had to come out as no longer fit.
