Thomas Williams Victoria 1844
« on: Monday 18 March 19 23:06 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancestors was Thomas Pugh Williams born around 1844 in Victoria Monmouth.

If his birth was registered with the GRO would he be listed against Bedwellty, Newport, Monmouth?

Only a few of the GRO indexes have middle names so I'm struggling to find him. I've ordered a few certificates and drawn a blank. None seem to be listed against Victoria.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

Thanks.

I'm not able to find any records against Bedwellty. Could it be that births in Victoria weren't registered with the GRO in 1844? What happened to the parish records? Am I missing something?

Or are they registered against Ebbw Vale? Has anyone found any Birth records for Victoria around this time?

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874 so many births went unregistered

Bedwelty didn't become a registration district until 1 July 1861. Before that, the area was covered by Abergavenny.
