Well a James Smith, not born in county in 1841 census, dead by 1851 is surely giving me headaches.

I'm busily avoiding sorting out some Williamses in Abergele ... and I know they would be chapel, too ...

PharmaT, truer words were never spoken.
Coombs, I fully agree. Ancestors dead before the 1851 census can be doubly annoying.
I have Smith's in Ayrshire who in the space of two generations were Irish, and Ireland was all that was put on every single record of them.  ::)
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

I hate that, when they put Ireland, England, Scotland etc.  So frustrating, could at least narrow it down a bit.

CarolA3, I have the same problem with the family name Loughborough. In your case have you tried not just specifying words but also, where the facility is available, to exclude certain words? For example, you could search for Smith, but exclude Yorkshire. It doesn't always work but it helps.

My great grandmother was Kate Loughborough, and on one occasion I searched for her, and got a hit on a theatre production of Kiss Me Kate, Loughborough Theatre.

Thanks Martin, but unfortunately if I excluded Yorkshire then that family wouldn't have any search results at all :o  Every relevant person I've found so far was born in Yorkshire and never left, although not one of them lived in the town whose name they bore ???

It's just one of those things, sent to try us :(

Irish research is as good as impossible it seems. Imagine some poor soul who wanted to do their family tree and found that 6 of their 8 great grandparents were Irish. I have found Scottish and French Huguenot ancestors and at least Scottish and French records are quite well documented and many survive.

In 1841 one of my ancestors was living in Marylebone, London and was not born in county and the Grim reaper claimed her just 6 weeks prior to the 1841 census. I managed to trace her husbands family and origin through a poor law record, but not their marriage yet.
