Alexander Mitchel/Jane Logue
« on: Tuesday 19 March 19 20:00 GMT (UK) »
Hello all
Trying to trace the whereabouts of Alexander Mitchel and his wife Jane Logue. They appear as the parents on the birth register for Mary Ann Mitchel, born 1869 in Newtownlimavady. Mary Ann married my great great grandfather, David Browne in 1885 in the parish of Templemore.
I think I've pieced together a little information about the family, but nothing concrete. On the 1911 census Mary Ann's children Alexander and David are staying with their Aunt, a Margaret Mitchell. Plus on Mary Ann's marriage certificate the witnesses are a William Mitchell and Isabella Moorehead, who I think are from county Monaghan. I am assuming William was a brother or cousin of Alexander, but nothing confirmed. Apart from Alexander and Jane's names on the birth register, and a Jane Mitchell being the informant for a number of Isabella and William's children, there is absolutely no mention of them anywhere else.
Any information anyone might have about what happened to Alexander Mitchel and Jane Mitchel (nee Logue) and perhaps where they died and are buried would be most helpful.
Many thanks

Do you know if Alexander and Jane had any children after Mary Ann, it would narrow down when they 'disappear'.

On the 1911 census Mary Ann's children Alexander and David are staying with their Aunt, a Margaret Mitchell but don't give a Link to them or even say what ages Alexander and David are.

Have you found them on 1901 Census and if so Where?

Thanks for your reply Sinann. Not that I can find. It seems as though Margaret Mitchell is her sister as their children are down as first cousins on the 1911 census. But Margaret is quite a bit older than her. Can't find a birth for Margaret.

I see from the marriage Mary Ann married in the Presbyterian church

The marriage gives the impression Alexander is alive but this may not be the case.

Is this Margaret Mitchell & the Browns in 1911?

KG - Yes it is. Also, Margaret is down as a widow but it seems as though she actually never married, she had her two children with a married man Alex Campbell.
