Elizabeth New b. 1870 Newbury
« on: Wednesday 20 March 19 04:29 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if someone could help me please, in confirming details in regard to Elizabeth New b. 1870 Newbury, daughter of John & Ellen New (nee Thorn) of Newbury.
So far I have found her at various times up until 1911 Census, when she is living with her Mother Ellen New in an Almshouse in Newbury.
I have tried to ascertain whether she actually married after this date, she would have been 41 years of age by then, have found one registration of marriage to Albert Newport and another to a Brown.

At one stage in 1901 census, she was found living with her brother-in-law Walter Philip Hancock, after the death of her sister Jane (Mary Jane) New - (Hancock), she was living at the family home, in assisting with 6 young children.
If anyone help me confirm what happened to her after 1911, would really appreciate that.Regards Jan

There is an on-line tree that states that she married Ernest John BROWN in 1915
He died in 1932 and she died in 1955
Civil Death Record quoted Newbury 1955 Sept V6a P42

There are seven siblings listed for here with DoBs and DoDs and links to records that make the information given look most believable.

Thank you, just wasn't sure, as there was another gentleman Albert E. Newport that Elizabeth New married in Newbury, which was where Elizabeth was living in 1911 census.

Was there another Elizabeth New in Newbury in 1911?

Have you found a death for Elizabeth Newport which corresponds with her age and location?

Have you checked for a death for Albert?

Have you checked the 1939 for Elizabeth Brown or Newport to compare birthyears

Have you checked the 1939 for Elizabeth Brown or Newport to compare birthyears

NEW, ELIZABETH
mother's maiden surname THORN
GRO Reference: 1870  D Quarter in NEWBURY  Volume 02C  Page 222

There are Brown - mmn New birth registrations in Reading until 1923.
Two of these are in the free index to the 1939 Register, living in Reading with Elizabeth Brown, born 1887

There is an on-line tree that states that she married Ernest John BROWN in 1915
He died in 1932

The death in Reading in 1932 is indeed of an Ernest John Brown, age 67
Berkshire electoral registers have Elizabeth Brown living with Ernest James Brown at 29 Granby Gardens, Reading.
They are indexed ever five years, EJ is at 29 Granby in 1920, but not in 1925.
Elizabeth Brown still there after the war. So that may be the address in 1939 ;D

I think the Elizabeth New who married Albert Newport was previously Elizabeth Bailey

Marriage 1913 to Edward New who died 1918.  1919 marriage to Albert shows her as Elizabeth A

Check the 1939 - not your Elizabeth

1945
29 Granby Gardens
Elizabeth Brown
G E Brown (female) - you can check her name on FreeBMD Birth 1917 Reading mn NEW
they are both still living at that address in 1965

Edited

It looks as if this is the same person
G E Brown died in 1998 DOB 11 4 1917 - you can check the 1939 Register to see if it's a match
