I found a hint on a different site and also in an online tree regarding a legal/court record regarding John Bickley . I have been unable to view the document but it seems to be a jail record.
He is listed as born Sanford 1824 and late of Torpoint and he was in Bodmin Gaol from 1878-1879. However, we have Canada Census documents with him in Canada from 1857 with second wife Grace Hunt.
So two John Bickleys in Sandford? Could it be his father and dates are somehow wrong? So far we last see John Senior in the 1851 census.
To further confuse things there is another criminal record for John Bickley born 1824 with location only shown as Devon. Trial date 21 Jul 1847. Sentence: Acquittal but have not been able to view the document to see what the charge was.
It seems John Bickley b 1801's third wife, Jane Lee, had a son John( as noted by CaroleW) and some records seem to indicate he took the name Bickley in the 1861 census but I have not been able to view that document. It says born 1846 Allhallows, Exeter, Devon, England and living in Sandford at time of census in 1861.
