William Sims? Camp s/o Sarah Ann Camp
« on: Thursday 21 March 19 23:13 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find any clues to the father of William Sims Camp.

He was born in the Derby Workhouse (Markeaton) in July 1886. His mother was Sarah Ann Camp of St Werburgh. In 1891 William is in the children's hospital, and in 1901 he has been adopted by the Houldsworth family.

Sims doesn't seem like a common middle name, so it could be that is the surname of William's father. It could even be that Sarah named him after his father & I am looking for William Sims senior.

Where do I look next?

Does William name a father on his marriage cert?

If not - there are 53 male Sims on the 1881 census for Derbyshire  born 1855-1865 (Sarah b 1865) and 25 entries b 1861-1865 so other than DNA you would find it difficult to determine paternity

Hi
There are three William Sims at St Werbrugh in 1871
William born 1861 s of William and Martha
William e born 1863 s of William and Sarah Ann
William born 1865 s of Edward and Charlotte

I'd start with them.

Good idea! I shall ask the relative I got the birth certificate from if he has noted a father on his marriage certificate.

Thank you, perhaps I'll build some William Sims trees and see if I strike lucky.

I am expecting DNA results from another descendant, so hopefully we'll be able to triangulate towards a father then.

Cheers.
