I will look into their marriage I think, maybe she married as a widow, Dowland might be her married name rather than her maiden name.

What info do you have on the marriage? Marital status, witnesses.

At the moment this is all I have:
21 Apr 1816
Marriage Place Binfield, Berkshire, Spouse William Langley
Sweetland (Chard/Yarcoombe/Honiton)
Garret/Stacey (Somerset)
Boultern/Boulton (Reading)
Crowther (Wolverhampton/Wednesbury/Birmingham)
Myres (Wolverhampton)
Palmer (Nottingham)
Cosby (Leighton Buzzard/Woodstock/Kidlington)
Hope (Oxford/Kidlington/Woodstock)
Williams (Yorkshire/Conisborough)
Draper (Bow Brickhill)
Draper Smith (Bow Brickhill/Woburn Sands)
Smith (Woburn Sands)

Hi Emma,
"Do you happen to know if the parish registers for Wokingham have been transcribed on a particular site please?"

The BerksFHS have released a CD of Baptisms that do contain ones for Wokingham (amonst other parishes) and do suggest as "emeltom" says try them here;
https://www.berksfhs.org.uk

As far as William's status is concerned, he is listed as a widower of this parish (Binfield) when he married Mary per the marriage transcripts from the BerksFHS.

Also on Ancy there is a record of him being a Chelsea Pensioner - possibly lost his right leg. His examination was in 1814 aged 31, a Corporal, born Wokingham and in the 1st Fooy East of Chatham. Its a little difficult to read but I could send a copy if you will send me a PM with your emails address.

Baptisms for Wokingham to 1812 are indexed on FamilySearch (MF 88477, from the parish registers)

https://search.findmypast.com/search-world-Records/berkshire-baptisms-index

The source? Berkshire Family History Society
Again, the only Dowlands in Wokingham are the two I've already mentioned
William 1794, David 1797, parents Henry + Mary

Thanks very much for your search suggestions that is really handy to have other options for checking. Much appreciated. It doesn't seem like a common name for the area.
Many thanks for your help.
Best wishes Emma
