Do you know where her sister Alice was in 1939?

I posted the details just to get the picture.
Have you checked her family in 1939?

My grandmothers trace has been straight forward so far, I've not checked where her sister Alice was or her mother Mary in 1939.
I think her father was a WW1 casualty but again, I've not got that far yet.

Do you have dates of birth for Alice or Mary?   Husband for Mary?
Just thinking Elsie could be with one of them but mistranscribed.

Also. Do you know any names of your grandfathers siblings?
(To help narrow down 1901 possibilities)

Nothing on the Alice front yet, i'm not that far with her yet but you might be right, the famioly in Wheelock was very close, i'll dig a bit deeper on that.
I know my grandfather had an brother called Harry who my dad is named after.
So i've got a Thomas x 2 and a Harry, i've trawled through census record for something with all 3 but nothing matches

Added: Elsie 14/01 not 14/12 on free search.  Who is Fred?

I wonder if that is Fred Davis and Elsie Latham married in Manchester 1929.
