DecipheringWilliam Joseph Newton's records
« on: Monday 25 March 19 13:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
Cany one help us to understand the attached record, in particular the letters and number under the GC (Good Conduct) column and the comment under the If discharged column immediately below Cells 14 days. WJN appears to have left his wife and child around this time and gone off the rails in an apparently atypical way and we are trying to work out what was going on.
Thank you for anything
Briannicus

The Good Conduct entries are explained here:

http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/Cond_of_Serv/GCBs.html

The two CS entries relate to the two 10 year Continuous Service periods he signed up for (look at the top left of the record too). First one "shore" meant finished his first 10, the pension after the second.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you very much, Max D.
I'll look into that and see if it all makes sense now.
