Help with - Alexander DROUET of London, England 1817 – 1879
« on: Monday 25 March 19 22:39 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information on the marriage of Alexander DROUET  born  to William Henry DROUET and Margaret Elizabeth WHITE on the 24th June 1817 in  Stepney, London, Middlesex, England and his wife Mary Agnes JOHNSON born in Kent, England about 1826.  On the 1841 England census Alexander was the publican at Nile Tavern, Hog Lane, Woolwich Kent, England and Mary was a female servant at the tavern. The only other census that I have found Alexander on is 1871 when he was living in Newington, London, Surrey, England and was a widower. I have not found Mary on any other census. Their first child, Miriam Mary Johnson DROUET was born 30th December 1844, possibly out of wedlock, at Hog Lane, Woolwich, Kent, England.  There other children were Alexander Francis (1846-1848), Matilda (1848 - ?) , Alfred Charles (1850- ?)  and William (1862 - ?). All of these children were born in the Walworth or Newington areas of London, Surrey, England.

Hi,

A very warm welcome to RootsChat!

Do you have this from FreeBmd:

Deaths

Drouet, Mary A; Age 42; June Qtr 1866; Newington Registration District; Volume 1d Page 159

Could this be Alexander?

Deaths

Drouet, Alexander; Age 64; March Qtr 1879; St Saviour Registration District; Volume 1d Page 117

I don't see a marriage as yet, unfortunately.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

Welcome from me too

There is a tree on Ancestry which has this entry

Alfred C Drouet b 1841 Camberwell Surrey - father Alexander mother Mary Agnes Johnson

Alfred died 1934 Surrey according to the tree but the Alfred who died in 1934 was only 62 so b 1872

Moral - don't trust all the info you find in trees on Ancestry!!

There is a tree on Ancestry which has this entry

Alfred C Drouet b 1841 Camberwell Surrey - father Alexander mother Mary Agnes Johnson

Alfred died 1934 Surrey

Since they registered an Alfred Charles Drouet in Dec qtr 1850, it looks unlikely there was also a (surviving) one born in or around 1841.

Hi,

The GRO Index seems to give a couple of extra children to Alexander and Mary Agnes. The full list is as follows:

Mothers Maiden surname Johnson

Drouet, Miriam Mary; March Qtr 1845; Greenwich Union Registration District; Volume 5 Page 265
Drouet, Alexander Francis; March Qtr 1847; St Mary Newington Registration District; Volume 4 Page 407
Drouet, Matilda; Sept Qtr 1848; Newington Registration District; Volume 4 Page 387
Drouet, Alfred Charles; Dec Qtr 1850; St Mary Newington Registration District; Volume 4 Page 413
Drouet, Mary; June Qtr 1856; St Mary Newington Registration District; Volume 1D Page 224
Drouet, Caroline; March Qtr 1858; Newington Registration District; Volume 1D Page 204
Drouet, William Henry; Dec Qtr 1862; Newington Registration District; Volume 1D Page 200

Matilda & William Henry's birth index record's are from FreeBMD as I couldn't see them on the GRO Index website.

Looks like both Mary & Caroline both died young, here are their death index records from the GRO website:

Drouet, Mary Ann; Age 0 (less than 1 year old); Sept Qtr 1856; St Mary Newington Reg Dist; Volume 1D Page 160
Drouet, Caroline; Age 2; Dec Qtr 1860; Newington Reg Dist; Volume 1D Page 160

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David
