Organising photos saved on a DVD
« on: Wednesday 27 March 19 16:06 GMT (UK) »
When my old digital camera died I was able to save the images on to a DVD, but in the transfer (which I have forgotten the details of) the ‘running order’ was altered and there is now no logic in the way the images are stored.
The photos have not been saved with titles.
I use Paint and have Gimp2, but cannot see a way of rejigging the pics into the order they were taken.
Can any of our professors help, please?  I am no sort of techie, so in plain language please!

A

In theory the image information should have been copied over - date and time, together with the name of each image.  You won't be able to reorder on the DVD but if you copy all of the files to a folder (you will need to create a new folder for the purpose) on your hard disk, you can then order them as you would like.

Assuming you are using Windows, once you have copied the files to a folder.   Open the folder and then go to the top of the screen and press the "View" tab.   In there (again at the top of the screen) you will see "Sort By", this will allow you to sort the files in many different ways including in date order, or file name.   If the date order doesn't work due to this information being lost, all cameras have an incremental naming process for the images, so you can just sort by name.

Many thanks for that.  I have found a way of transferring the folder and all now seems well.
