"the strange part is, in a photo of her husband from the same era, he looks like a white person would"

Oh, good grief.  That baby looks like a white person would.  I look like a white person would.  So do my parents.  There's a good reason for that: we're all white people.

one of my daughters is definitely more olive skinned than the others.. which she is pleased about cos she turns a lovely colour in the sun... whereas her REALLY REALLY full blood sister looks pale and pathetic next to her...

so   who knows

One of my DNA contacts (yes I did have a few :) )   said she was persuaded to do hers by her Father because he had heard there was African blood in the family........ and her results came back Negative to that effect.

BUT the photos of her Grandfather show him looking very dark skinned...

'its all in the make up' ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

People in the UK are a mix of everyone so sometimes a darker great great grandparent  can come out in a child much later on or pass generations.

Rather a pointless discussion, it's a black & white photo, the baby could be green.

GREEN   ....  :D well...  that's possible .... and like BLACK and WHITE it is a surname found in many countries .... BROWN and BLUE are also surnames ....  but that baby's face is not giving any clues to their parentage, ethnicity, heritage or similar.   If our OP is seeking family history for the baby,  I think we would need more than a  photo ....

My mother, father two brothers and myself are all fairly olive skinned with dark hair, but my sister is blonde with fair skin. My fathers brother had seven children, all dark haired  except for one of the boys, who is blonde. Obviously there is an ancestor somewhere who was blonde and a blonde child appears from time to time. You never know what your ancestors will throw out next.
