There may be no connection to your James Lee but, the name on the register is definitely Collins. One of the witnesses was Pheby Collins who was Elizabeth's sister, baptised as Phebe in 1790.

She married William Dunn in Toxteth, Liverpool, in 1816, signing as Phebey.

They appear to have had several children baptised together in Delamere, near Tarporley, in 1822. William is described as a Horse Trainer.

In 1818, there was a child, William, baptised in Aldford, with the father described as a Jockey.

On the marriage licence, he was a Groom.

William Jnr. married Martha Oulton and became a vet in Tarporley.

Interestingly, when Robert Collins married Barbara Neden in 1784, he was a Horse Jockey.

Carol, I really think that you should buy William's marriage certificate to attempt to confirm Elizabeth's maiden name.  It may very well save you from going down the wrong route.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you David and Bumble B.  I think I will invest in the marriage certificate as you say, BB., this marriage has been a real challenge to me.
It was easier to find my six (6) Convicts who were transported to Australia for various crimes.

The place where I live was only discovered 200 years ago last October 2018. The settlement was opened as a Penal Settlement in 1821.  And free settlers came in 1828. Still, a few of the old convict built building survive.

Thanks again.

I really do think that it is a good idea.  AND William is your direct ancestor, so an additional piece of memorabilia.  ;)

Added:  please let us know when you receive it.  :)

I noticed that this topic has been discussed before, without any resolution - https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=754158.0

With regard to Elizabeth Hamlet, there was a Betty Hamlet with a Wesleyan Methodist baptism in 1798 (too young to have married James?).

Betty Hamlet
Baptism: 6 May 1798
Place: Leigh
Denomination: Wesleyan Methodist
Father: John
Mother: Betty

Leigh is approximately 15 miles from Northenden, where James Leigh/Lee married Elizabeth Hamlet in 1816.

There is also this baptism, which suggests that a Betty Lee died in Jan/Feb 1826, but I can't find a definite record.

Hannah Lee
Birth: 24 Jan 1826
Baptism: 12 Feb 1826
Place: Bullock Smithy, Cheadle (3 miles from Stockport)
Denomination: Wesleyan Methodist
Abode: Bosden (Bosden Farm is 3 miles from Stockport)
Father: James
Mother: Betty (deceased)
